Terms & Conditions
Last updated: 11 October 2026
These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of the Plain Hacker News Android application and this website (together, the “Service”). By downloading, installing, or using the Service, you agree to these terms.
1. Unofficial client
Plain Hacker News is an unofficial, independent client for Hacker News. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Y Combinator or Hacker News. All story titles, links, comments, and other content are created by their respective authors and remain the property of those authors.
2. Use of the Service
You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these terms. You agree not to:
- misuse, disrupt, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or its underlying APIs;
- scrape, resell, or redistribute the Service or its data without permission;
- use the Service in a way that infringes the rights of others.
3. Content and third-party links
The Service displays content from third parties, including the Hacker News API and Algolia. We do not control and are not responsible for that content. Links open third-party websites, and your use of those sites is governed by their own terms and policies.
4. No warranty
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any content will be accurate or available.
5. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data or profits, arising out of or relating to your use of the Service.
6. Changes to the Service and terms
We may modify or discontinue the Service, in whole or in part, at any time. We may also update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
7. Privacy
Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy.
